The kitchen is very well equipped and in the living room you can stay and playing piano. Town Reykhólar

The district of Reykhólar stretches out over the whole county of East Barðaströnd and is only 230 km away from Reykjavík (360 km away from Akureyri). Our district offers some incredible and varied scenery, noticed by any-one passing through. A wide variety of birds make this their home, due to the extensive tidal changes. You´ll find an excellent swimming pool at Reykhólar, and a very interesting exhibition,”Hlunnindasýning,” on the use of by-products from the land and sea from the age of settlement until modern times. Located next to the exhibition you´ll find a tourist information centre and lots of marked walking paths. Guesthouse Álftaland is in Reykhólar. There is a hot pot and steam bath, good facilities for the handicapped, and a camp site. Open year-round.At Reykhólar there´s a unique seaweed factory, Thorverk Ltd. Above the Bjarkalundur grove you´ll see the beautiful Vaðalfjöll mountains that characterize the landscape.

Reykhólar is renowned for its natural beauty and bird life. Reykhólar is a historic site once considered among the best farmlands in Iceland. About 300 offshore islands belong to the district. In ancient times wheat was grown there. Reykhólar is often mentioned in the Sagas. Today, the local community´s
economy is based mainly on harvesting and processing kelp. When driving to Reykhólar, the road passes Barmahlíð, about which Jón Thoroddsen wrote, “My beautiful hillside ...” Population 292. Borgarland. There are peculiar rock formations (volcanic dykes) between two small fjords, Króksfjörður and Berufjörður. Bjartmarssteinn, a volcanic plug 55 m high and 100 m across, is said to be the capital of the hidden people of Breiðafjörður. Reykhólar district. The hiking map of the country-side around Reykhólar describes nine main hiking routes plus several shorter ones. Two of them are: A) Vaðalfjöll, along the roadside trail just east of Bjarkalundur. Vaðalfjöll are two beautifully formed rock pillars that are best approached from the west. One can return the same way or walk west until the old highway is reached, and then follow it towards Kinnastaðir and from there to Bjarkalundur along the old road. B) Reykhólar, a walking trail around Einreykjastígur from the swimming pool to Einreykjahver where there is a gravel trail with bridges over marshy areas thriving with bird life. Walk first along the trench and then the stream to the kiosk at Arnhóll. There is also a walking trail at Mávavatn.
